Program/Service Notes:
The Non-Emergency Medical Transportation Program, of NEMT, consists of cash payments made to vendors on behalf of eligible Medicaid recipients who need round-trip transportation to a medical facility. Mileage is reimbursed at the rate of 31 cents per mile when private automobiles are used. A small meal allowance for certain persons when the duration of the round-trip extends through mealtimes. Transportation may also be available via common carrier when travel by private automobile is not available. A person must be a Medicaid recipient and have an appointment for any medical treatment that is approved under Medicaid guidelines. Also a person must receive prior approval from the Department of Health and Human Resources before the trip is made.
