Program/Service Notes:
CRI is a private, non-profit, charitable organization organized as a Community Action Project incorporated under a volunteer board of directors. The focus of CRI is to improve the lives of low-income people. Its primary goal is twofold: (1) to provide services which help the poor obtain basic necessities, and (2) to develop means to change those systems which cause poverty. Programs and Services Offered by CRI: Employment: Job assistance, Job Readiness Classes-"Transitions"(From Welfare to Work); WV Wheels-To-Work Program-lease to own used vehicles donated to persons beginning a new job; and Registration with the Parkersburg Job Service. Education: GED Preparation; Adult Basic Education; Family Support Groups; Computer Training; and Educational Tutoring(GED) by appointment. Income Maintenance. (Money Management)-Consumer Credit Counseling Services and Home Management Assistance. Housing: HUD Referrals; HUD Meetings; Group Work Camps; Home Repair, and Weatherization Program. Emergency Services: Direct Financial Aid; Community Mobilization of Donated goods, Low Income Energy Assistance Program; Homeless Referrals and Assistance; and Coats for Kids. Emergency Assistance: Financial assistance for utility bills. Nutrition: Emergency Food Pantries; Community Dinner at Thanksgiving; and Holiday Food Baskets. Linkages: Community Networks; Advocacy; Volunteer Development; Youth Enrichment Programs; Holiday Projects(Christmas applications taken from families in need); Community Presentations and Outreach; and Needs Assessments. Healthy Lifestyle Programs Self-sufficiency: Mentoring and Financial Assistance Information and Referral: Provides information and referral to other agencies and programs that are available to families. Summer Camp: One-week camp for children ages 7-12. Crisis Pregnancy Services: Services and counseling available through CRI or through the Central Office in Parkersburg at 304-485-7113 or 1-800-595-7113 for unwed teenagers or any pregnant woman; transportation to Parkersburg also available. Family Mentoring: Services provided through Ameri-Corp to those in need of assistance in setting and achieving goals for self-sufficiency and bettering themselves and family; make home visits; move clients from TANF to the workplace; inform clients of the availability of educational programs and training; assist in obtaining a GED, assist with transportation to appointments, job searches, etc; and assist in obtaining drivers license.
