Program/Service Notes:
The mission of the CDI Head Start Program is to provide a pre-school environment conducive to the development of the highest levels of the social and developmental skills necessary for the academic success of the children in our care. To achieve this goal we will maintain the highest professional standard through training and academic preparation while remembering that love, understanding, and respect are the most valuable gifts we have to give to the children in our care. We also acknowledge that the primary educators of all children are their parents. Therefore, we will offer parents the opportunity for training, support, and personal growth that will enable them to be more effective parents and advocates for the children. As a team, the parents and Head Start Staff will give children the love, support, and skills which will enable them to succeed in school and live productive, healthy lives.
The center-based program offered in Wirt County is an Equal Opportunity Program that serves 20 children five days per week. The children are provided a hot breakfast, a hot lunch, and an afternoon snack each school day.
Staff and parents meet to share assessments of their child's development. Members of the teaching staff are required to make four parent contacts (two in the home and two at the center). Home visits are made monthly by the Family Service Assistant.
All parents receive a parent information family handbook regarding general information, health and safety requirements, the Creative Curriculum education program, mental health/ disabilities, nutrition, parent involvement/social services, Head Start activities planned throughout the year, and the donation policy.
The program encourages volunteers from the community to assist the teacher with the daily routine and direct interaction with the children.
Ten-percent of the enrollment is available for children with disabilities.
