VAC History The Volunteer Action Center was founded in 1995 to promote volunteerism and build the capacity of non-profit organizations. It has held numerous workshops and conferences during the past several years, including Volunteers Are Cornerstones; It’s A Wrap: Year End Financial Tasks for Non-Profits; Volunteers Nurture By Nature; A Match Made in Heaven; and Firm Foundations: – A Financial Workshop for Non-Profits. The Volunteer Action Center also offers an Information and Referral Program, linking callers to a state- wide data base of thousands of health and human services by calling 424-3457 or simply 2-1-1. The VAC also mobilizes volunteers to help people who are elderly, chronically ill, and/or disabled remain independent at home through its FaithLink program. VolunteerWV matches people who want to volunteer with agencies and individuals who need volunteers, and the VAC’s Center for Community Service Agencies allows numerous non-profit organizations to cut their overhead costs by sharing services, personnel, equipment, and facilities. The VAC may be reached by phone: 304-424-3457, fax: 304-422-1025, or email: director@vacmov.org. The website is www.vacmov.org. Our mailing address is 521 Market Street #6, Parkersburg, WV 26101.

VAC Programs Volunteer WV is an effort coordinated by the Volunteer Action Center to connect people who want to volunteer with organizations that need volunteers. This is a local branch of the statewide Volunteerwv.org organization. Information & Referral Services lists thousands of agencies and programs and is connected with the statewide WV 211 system. The Volunteer Action Center provides a coordinator who assists callers with finding the information for the agencies that can help them. FaithLink is a Faith-in-Action program which enables people who are elderly, disabled, or chronically ill to live as independently as possible by linking them to a community of faith-based volunteers. The effort is led by Volunteer Action Center staff. Center for Community Service Agencies is an arrangement with other nonprofit independent agencies which sub-lease from the Volunteer Action Center. Agencies share the cost of personnel (janitorial and reception), equipment, and services. Volunteer Mobilization Center provides a place to organize volunteers in the event of a disaster. The Volunteer Action Center is organizing and maintaining the VMC. |
