Volunteers are needed by the Kids First Program to play with the children between the drop-off and pick-up times. Volunteers must be at least a senior in high school. Volunteers, preferably 23 years or older, are needed to monitor the children during visitations with their non-custodial parent. The program will provide all training necessary. A background check and application are required. Monitored exchanges and visitations take place on Sunday, Wednesday and Friday nights, usually from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. If interested in this opportunity, contact Ann Pifer at 304-428-8721 or e-mail kidsfirstprogram@frontier.net. The Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall will be at the Parkersburg City Park on September 1-5 and will be set up for viewing 24 hours a day. Volunteers are needed to assist residents in finding the name or names of soldiers killed during the Vietnam War. The Department of Veterans Affairs will also have its Mobile Unit Vet Center on hand to provide information and counseling services for veterans. The Waverly Elementary School is looking for a volunteer to do outside painting, which would include door frames, underpinning and poles. If interested, contact Mindy Wilson at 304-464-4250. The Care Haven of Pleasants County is looking for entertainment for their residents. If there are volunteers who are a part of a musical group, a singer, a dancer or play a musical instrument, the Care Haven would like to hear from you. They are also looking for speakers that could speak on various topics for the Men’s Club at the Care Haven. Essentially Yours is looking for volunteers to process clients and help stock shelves. Essentially Yours provides the essential home good items needed to improve the quality of life for referred families and individuals transitioning from homelessness into a dwelling. A “Giving A Hand Up” fund raising dinner with music and an auction will be sponsored by Essentially Yours on Saturday, September 24, 2011, at 6:00 p.m. at Rockland United Methodist Church located at 2300 Washington Boulevard in Belpre, OH.
