Youth and Family Volunteers

What is family volunteering?

When one or more members of a family volunteer together. We define a family as two or more people that "consider" themselves related. Grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings, spouses, special family friends, sorority sisters, office staff, etc...all qualify as "Family" for the purpose of this program. Everyone can participate!

What types of volunteering are available for my family?

All types! Your family could do yard work for an older person in the community or prepare and serve meals. Your Family could be involved in providing leadership and input to the Family Matters program. The sky's the limit for volunteer opportunities! Your family will be matched up to volunteer opportunities based on your interests and the level of involvement you are interested in, as well as the family make-up.

Why should my family get involved?

When your family joins with other families and you each bring your own unique gifts, then you become a powerful force that can strengthen and heal our nation. Your family can make a difference!

How can my family become involved?

To learn more about volunteering as a family in your community, contact your FAMILY MATTERS representative at the Volunteer Action Center.

I'm just a kid, but I want to help.  What can I do?

Talk, rake, clean, help, collect, distribute, dance, sing, joke, pet, walk, ride, run, drive, write, sweep, play, paint, feed, weed, plant, pull, push, type, file, answer a phone, make a call, scope the mall, bring a friend, be a friend, and basically, anything you can think of - because YOU choose.

Where can I volunteer?

All over Wood County.

Volunteers are always welcome at one of our local hospitals. Teens over age 14 and adults are encouraged to apply. Contact Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital Volunteer Services at (304) 424-2345, or
St. Joseph’s Volunteer Services at (304) 424-4248.

If you love animals, the Humane Society of Parkersburg is always welcoming new volunteers.  Your mom or dad will need to come with you if you're under 16.

This sounds like fun. How do I get started ?

Just call us and tell us what you want to do. We hook you up with supplies, equipment, resources, projects, and maybe even food!
